Conflict of Interest

It is not a question of whether God exists that is in people’s minds more than the thought that secretly lies in our hearts- why doesn’t He do things the way I would like Him to do them?

Almost the first objection to the existence of God is the question why is there so much suffering in the world? If he existed he would stop it. Balanced with this question is what happens when God does intervene.

Wickedness existed before the flood and God intervened. The ark was built as a testimony against this wickedness: “And God looked upon the earth, and behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted His way upon the earth.” Genesis 6:12.

The very reason why there are so many languages upon the earth was because men had imagined that they could build a tower that reached into heaven “…let us go down and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.” Genesis 11:7, man’s interests again conflicted with the God of Heaven.

Again “the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of Heaven” Genesis 19:24. “Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous…” Genesis 18:20. Balanced with the desire of God to punish sin righteously is His mercy. “If Thou, Lord, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?” Psalm 130:3.

It must be then, in our world where every commandment is broken daily, that judgment is being withheld. Why?

Why can God allow sin and wickedness to continue unpunished?

Calvary.

“…Calvary, there they crucified Him…” Luke 23:33. “And the Lord hath laid on Him the iniquity of us all.” Isaiah 53:6. God has dealt with sin, wickedness and injustice in the person of His Blessed Son and through Him He has provided the way of salvation.

The Saviour said “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.” John 14:6.
